Adagio sent me a little pyramid bag of this with the utiliTEA I ordered as a “surving finals” present for myself. I broke it apart so it’d last longer :)
I only got about three steeps out of this because I got distracted and let the water cool, but those three were fantastic, with malty, chocolaty notes. I can’t wait to try it again!

A first steep, so the leaves still haven’t fully expanded. The rock mineral taste in this is fabulous.

Just applied for a job at Teavana
Don’t know if they’ll call, but I’m crossing my fingers. It’d be AMAZING to work surrounded by all that tea!

I’m repeatedly being underwhelmed by David’s green teas. This one is decent, with vegetal top notes and a lingering sweetness, but it’s not fantastic.

temperusmaximus asked: How many cups does an ounce of tea make? And what are the benefits of steeping a cup of tea multiple times? Does it change the flavor profile or is it just so you can enjoy multiple cups from the same batch?
It really depends on the size of the tea - is it densely packed, is it light and fluffy, etc… but a good, general guide is that an ounce will make somewhere in the range of 10-15 cups of tea, if you only steep once.
Why re-steep tea leaves? Both. Brewing Western-style, you can get upwards of 3 cups from the same leaves (depending on what kind of tea you use. Oolongs are good for this. Blacks peter out around the 3rd cup.) The flavor profile also changes drastically. Especially if you’re brewing in small amounts and doing a lot of infusions, you sometimes end up in a drastically different place than where you began.

Monkey Picked (Ma Liu Mie) Tie Guan Yin
First off, let me thank Teavivre for such a generous sample of this! Secondly, it’s delicious. On the first few steeps, there’s a roasted scent which prevails, and around steep 3 or 4 it starts fading to something much more sweet and buttery. A tea to savor.

omi-tan asked: Hey, have you ever tried Hong Kong milk tea?
I have not! There’s a lot I haven’t tried so far :)

sqoozh asked: I'm a big fan of Jasmine milk tea, but since I'm moving soon and will no longer have access to my favorite bubble tea house, I've been wanting to learn how to make my own. Since my only experience with Jasmine tea that I've made myself is with the Dragon Pearl-style stuff, which is way to expensive for me to make a glorified latte with, I was wondering if you had any recommendations for a more affordable Jasmine tea that can be brewed at double strength and goes well with milk and sugar.
Unfortunately, I can’t say I do… most of my experiences with jasmine tea have been either dragon pearl or scented whites, neither which seems right for you. Followers - any suggestions?

rien-narrete-nos-esprits asked: Do you care much for assams/darjeelings? If so, can you recommend any good brands (loose leaf, of course!)? I've tried several, but I'm always looking to branch out.
~lots of questions lately! And so busy with finals and end-of-term projects that I haven’t had time to get the queue started again… hope you all don’t mind! I’m trying to post at lease one photo a day :)
Assams/Darjeelings.
I have to admit that I haven’t been drinking a lot of black tea lately! (but of course, your question made me want some, so I had to go root around in my stash for a bit.) I’m currently drinking Teavana’s Darjeeling de Triomphe. It’s decent. Don’t know if I would pay the usual price (I got mine 75% off).
I’ve never ordered from them, but I know Upton is a big name in Darjeelings - they’re catalogue/online only and based in Western MA. Verdant Tea and Teavivre are both Chinese-based tea retailers, but they’re excellent, and have really good customer service.
And then there are all your usuals - Teavana, DAVIDs, Adagio, etc.
~Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
